Bankpeptide Biotinylated Peptides
In biochemistry, biotinylation is the process of covalently attaching biotin to a protein, nucleic acid or other molecule. Biotinylation is rapid, specific and is unlikely to disturb the natural function of the molecule due to the small size of biotin (MW = 244.31 g/mol). Biotin binds to streptavidin and avidin with an extremely high affinity, fast on-rate, and high specificity, and these interactions are exploited in many areas of biotechnology to isolate biotinylated molecules of interest. Biotin-binding to streptavidin and avidin is resistant to extremes of heat, pH and proteolysis, making capture of biotinylated molecules possible in a wide variety of environments. Also, multiple biotin molecules can be conjugated to a protein of interest, which allows binding of multiple streptavidin, avidin or neutravidin protein molecules and increases the sensitivity of detection of the protein of interest. There is a large number of biotinylation reagents available that exploit the wide range of possible labelling methods.
Bankpeptide routinely synthesizes biotinylated peptides for use in protein-protein interaction studies. We provide:
- Each biotin peptide is biotinylated at the N-terminus, and Lys-biotin-C-terminus Lys-biotin-middle of the peptide.
- A flexible hydrophilic linker is inserted between biotin and peptide.
- Excellent for screening assays, e.g. as ELISA peptides.
- Specialized synthesis method results in automatic removal of truncation sequences during immobilization.
- Also provide a similar performance as purified peptides from standard peptide synthesis at much lower cost, higher success rate, shorter turnaround time, and ease of operation.
- Incorporation of non-natural amino acids or post-translational modifications like methylation or phosphorylation possible.
Biotin can be separated from the peptide by a variety of different linkers or spacers. Nevertheless, it is recommended that a flexible spacer such as Ahx (a 6-carbon linker) is included to render the biotin label more stable or flexible.

Documentation and Packaging
Each peptide is shipped with a Document of HPLC and MS data for free. Other test datas can also be provided according to customer demand . Peptides are packed with ice bag and desiccants during shipment and storage. After opening, we recommend peptides are stored dry in a freezer (details given in our technical guide to handling peptides; a copy is shipped with each peptide).
